Basic Metabolic Panel

A Basic Metabolic Panel is a lab test that is very important and necessary for doctors to be able to get a better understanding of your body and the way that it is functioning. BMP’s are compromised of 7 to 8 different blood chemical tests from a blood sample that is drawn after an 8 to 10 hour fast (instructions will be given by your doctor) and then sent to a lab to analyze key factors regarding your health.

A BMP can detect if you are having any issues with blood filtration, your electrolyte levels, blood sugar levels, and the balance of acids and bases in your blood. BMP can also help in the diagnoses of diabetes, kidney disease, lung disease, and how you may respond to different medications. The seven different blood chemical tests that are taken for a BMP (also referred to as the CHEM-7) are glucose, creatinine, BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen), sodium, potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate. These exams can also help pinpoint a medical issue that needs a particular and immediate procedure, such as diabetic shock, dehydration, congestive heart failure, or substance overdose. For this reason a BMP is a very necessary and relevant exam in our process of healing you.
